Most of these applications are surveys, 'who are you' quizzes and other Mood Ring'esque bullshit. They are irritating by themselves, however I'm more annoyed by the artwork I see in these apps. They are mainly popular Deviant images.
I'm SURE these are used without permission.
Prior to facebook users participating in these applications, they are informed that they must allow the application to access the users information.
Information like this is used, obviously, for business purposes, so even though the app is free, ostensibly there is profit to be made.
Unless you are using a Deviants work to paint your desktop with or as a lark, then its illegal in my mind.
I don't blame the other side 100%, we need to be aware of the availability of our work, as well as exemplify appropriate use of our peers'artwork by constantly asking permission.
